The Alderney band were delighted to host the 6th annual visit from the Elizabeth College Young Ringers. Duncan brought 6 College boys over for the weekend March 24/25th. They joined the St Anne’s practice on Saturday morning & in the afternoon went to Wells for their first ever visit to the Ringing Centre. The boys really enjoyed the light easy-going Wells Bells. On Sunday we rang rounds on 10 & 12 for Service at St Anne’s with the College boys & then went to Wells where we scored 2 quarter peals (PB Minor and PB Doubles) incorporating 3 ‘firsts’. Aileen was a very efficient Steward for the simulator competition which was won by Patrick with a score of 8.5.
Alderney young ringers Aaron Hallett and Oliver Knight (below) had a tremendous time with the College boys and are looking forward to seeing them again soon

Alderney Ringer now in Perth, WA
Helen McGregor & Peter Bevis have been touring Australia and New Zealand since early January, and of course ringing as many bells as they could find. While at St George’s Cathedral in Perth, WA they met Kate Thomson (nee Dover). Kate told them she was the daughter of Jane & Tony Dover who ran the Post Office in Victoria St – before it was moved into the newsagents. Kate and her parents learned to ring on Alderney in 1990 under the guidance of then resident Tony Fortin. After leaving Alderney in 1992 Kate’s family moved to Shropshire then Devon & finally Cornwall. Kate moved to Australia 11 years ago after marrying an Australian; she now rings regularly with the band in Perth.
A snippet from the Long Length will be broadcast on BBC radio 4 Bells on Sunday March 4th 5.43am
No excuse to be late for Service Ringing afterwards

As you may have noticed there has been no issue 66, February 2018 of Les Cloches des Îles, our bi-annual news magazine. Few can now remember Issue 1, published over 30 years ago, but it is clearly a venerable institution. However its time has come. The day of the print magazine is over. Paper is dead. Long live the internet.
CIbells was always planned to be the successor to Les Cloches des Îles, which as a bi-annual print magazine could never provide up to date news. As issues are lost over time, the contents of back issues cannot readily be located. A web site “blog” is different. Firstly ANY MEMBER can post directly to the blog by sending it an email to [email protected]. Rather than everyone having a mailing list of every other member, plus any other interested parties, any news or matters of interest can be published to cibells instantly and viewed by all.
Of course everyone has to look to find the information, but I believe and hope that over the next few years we will all learn that cibells.com is the place to look. It is, as usual, up to everyone to make this work. And if anyone out there feels strongly enough that this is the wrong approach, remember that as the new newsletter editor – you could publish it once again. But if the job is mine, cibells is the solution I favour.
I did plan to wait to see which towers would remember to send me copy for Les Cloches des Îles – which I would then post here. Not many is the answer and so I have sent out a reminder. Please be more proactive in July. I really don’t want to have to be a nag.
