Starting on Monday April 9th, 2018, the Vale practice night, which for many years has started at 7.45 and finished at 9.15pm, will start at 7.30 and finish at 9.00pm.
There will be no practice on Easter Monday this year.

The Alderney band were delighted to host the 6th annual visit from the Elizabeth College Young Ringers. Duncan brought 6 College boys over for the weekend March 24/25th. They joined the St Anne’s practice on Saturday morning & in the afternoon went to Wells for their first ever visit to the Ringing Centre. The boys really enjoyed the light easy-going Wells Bells. On Sunday we rang rounds on 10 & 12 for Service at St Anne’s with the College boys & then went to Wells where we scored 2 quarter peals (PB Minor and PB Doubles) incorporating 3 ‘firsts’. Aileen was a very efficient Steward for the simulator competition which was won by Patrick with a score of 8.5.

Rules for CI District Annual 8 bell inter-island Competition – Spring Meeting
1. The venue will rotate around the islands in the same manner as the 6 bell competition
2. The committee will set the method & touch for each competition by the end of October for the following spring competition
3. Members of each team must be fully paid up members of the Guild and be a regular and active ringer in the island they represent.
4. The 2 visiting bands to have 15 mins practice on the morning of the competition
5. The order of ringing will be decided by ballot.
6. Each team to have 2 minutes practice.
7. The treble shall be rung to indicate that the team is about to commence the test piece.
8. The rounds before and after the test piece will be unmarked
Note: It is hoped that wherever possible a District team will ring 4th as a practice for the Guild 8 bell competition.

• 224 changes in any Triples or Major method(s) of the team’s own choice. All of the changes (but not the rounds before or after) will be judged.
• Call changes. The team may choose the changes to be rung but all the bells except the tenor are to take a turn at leading. The opening rounds and the stand will not be judged. Teams must ring for at least five minutes after the first change is called.
3. Members of each team must be fully paid up members of the Guild and be a regular and active ringer in the island they represent.
4. The order of ringing will be decided by ballot.
5. Each team to have 6 minutes practice.
6. The treble shall be rung to indicate that the team is about to commence the test piece.
7. The rounds before and after the test piece will be unmarked
Note: At the discretion of the Ringing Master a Scratch Team may be entered into this competition
Alderney Ringer now in Perth, WA
Helen McGregor & Peter Bevis have been touring Australia and New Zealand since early January, and of course ringing as many bells as they could find. While at St George’s Cathedral in Perth, WA they met Kate Thomson (nee Dover). Kate told them she was the daughter of Jane & Tony Dover who ran the Post Office in Victoria St – before it was moved into the newsagents. Kate and her parents learned to ring on Alderney in 1990 under the guidance of then resident Tony Fortin. After leaving Alderney in 1992 Kate’s family moved to Shropshire then Devon & finally Cornwall. Kate moved to Australia 11 years ago after marrying an Australian; she now rings regularly with the band in Perth.

Spring Meeting April 28th 2018, St John’s Jersey
The set touch for this years 8 Bell striking competition will be 252 changes of Plain Bob Triples. The composition is three homes.

In a break from the traditional morning competition, and to allow for your Peals, Quarter peals and street parties for the royal wedding, we are proposing a 6pm start, probably followed by gathering in a pub to celebrate or drown our sorrows.
16th June – Inter-district Guild 8 bell competition.
St Michael, Basingstoke – 1pm start followed by the Guild service and AGM.
15th September – Inter-district Guild 10 bell competition.
